How to Find Peace - Protecting Your Peace in a World Hell-Bent on Stealing It

Finding peace of mind isn't always easy, especially when life seems to throw one challenge after another your way. I know, I have been through the fires of hell and back, crawling out of rock bottom on my eyelashes. Some days, staying grounded feels effortless. Other days, even the smallest things can leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Protecting your peace isn't something you accomplish once and never have to think about again. It's something you nurture every day, through small, intentional choices that help you feel more connected to yourself.

Through my years of teaching and healing, I’ve developed a four step process you can take to help you cultivate and keep peace in your day to day.

But before we start, if you are struggling with the concept of even protecting peace that you currently don’t have, then I encourage you to go to my Instagram. I have a February Self-Love and March Madness Self-Care series designed around cultivating peace daily.

1. The Grounding Body Scan & Breathwork for Emotional Release

Your emotions are simply energy in motion. They’re meant to move through you so that you act as a filter, not a container.

The Practice

  • Sit comfortably in a quiet place.

  • Soften your gaze or close your eyes.

  • Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a moment, and exhale through your mouth, letting your jaw drop to release tension.

The Scan

Slowly move your awareness from the crown of your head down to your toes. Notice any tightness in your jaw, shoulders, chest, or belly.

The Takeaway

Ask yourself:

  • “How do I feel?”

  • “Where do I feel it in my body?”

Once you locate tension, consciously breathe into that area and imagine releasing it. Repeat this throughout the day.

Awareness is everything.

Breathwork is so powerful for emotional release because it can directly calm our nervous system unlike any other exercise. Make breathwork a regular practice for nervous system regulation.

2. The Weekly Brain Dump

When mental clutter builds up, anxiety and stress thrive.

A regular brain dump helps clear the noise, bring calm, and create mental clarity. Journaling is a powerful practice for finding peace within yourself, and maintaining it.

The Practice

  • Grab a pen and a journal. (Physical writing wins here and is especially grounding.)

  • Set a timer for 5–10 minutes.

  • Write down everything on your mind, no editing, no filtering, no judgment. Include everything from errands and to-do lists to fears, worries, and big life decisions.

The Filter

After you’re done, review what you wrote and cross out everything you cannot control (e.g., other people’s actions, the weather, global events).

The Takeaway

Seeing what lies outside your control makes it easier to consciously release it and make peace with it.

This helps regulate your nervous system and keeps your focus on what you can actually influence.

3. Rewire Your Inner Self-Talk (The 3 C’s)

Your internal dialogue shapes your reality. Usually, it’s driven by old patterns and programming established in childhood.

Protecting your peace starts with how you speak to yourself.

The Filters

Run your thoughts through these questions:

  • Is it kind?

  • Is it true?

  • Is it necessary?

And:

  • Would I speak this way to a child or my best friend?

Apply the 3 C’s

  • Catch it: Notice when you’re judging, criticizing, or tearing yourself down.

  • Check it: Ask whether those thoughts are true, kind, necessary, or just fear and old patterns talking.

  • Change it: Replace the negative thought with a more supportive, encouraging statement or a grounding mantra.

Pro Peace Tip

Say your positive reframes out loud in front of a mirror. The sound and vibration of your own voice, combined with your reflection, is a powerful way to rewire your brain. Over time, this simple practice can help you cultivate a greater sense of inner peace, allowing you to approach life's challenges with more calm, confidence, and self-compassion.

4. Enforce Boundaries with the “Mirrored Room”

Boundaries define what is okay and what is not okay. Without them, resentment grows.

If someone or something keeps draining your energy, you need a way to protect your mental and emotional space so you can maintain your peace.

The Practice: The Mirrored Room Visualization

  • In your mind’s eye, imagine a room where the floor, ceiling, and all four walls are mirrors.

  • Inside is a deeply comfortable chair, a fully stocked fridge, and everything needed for safety and comfort.

  • Bring to mind the person who is living “rent-free” in your head or triggering intrusive thoughts.

  • Gently usher them into this mirrored room. Let them know they have everything they need, but they can no longer reside in your mind.

  • Step out of the room and close the door.

The Takeaway

Anytime their energy creeps back in, visualize placing them back in the mirrored room. Over time, they will intrude on your peace less and less.

Cultivating a Daily Practice for Peace

Protecting your peace isn’t about stopping life’s storms; it’s about building the inner tools to weather them and rise more quickly when you’re knocked down.

End your days by naming three simple things you’re grateful for. This trains your subconscious to look for light, goodness, and joy, even in difficult seasons.
